OUR STORY
Designed by renowned Island architect William Critchlow Harris, Elmwood Heritage Inn was built in 1889 as a private residence for a prominent local family with ties to the region’s maritime history. The home has evolved over time while maintaining its original character and presence.
In later years, it was thoughtfully converted into an inn by Jay and Carol MacDonald, creating a place that has welcomed guests for decades. Today, Elmwood continues in that tradition, with a focus on comfort, character, and a true sense of place.
Elmwood is now stewarded by Heidi, who admired the home from afar for over a decade before the opportunity to own it came along. A believer that they don’t make homes like they used to, she has focused on preserving its character while making it feel comfortable and easy for guests to enjoy. You may see her around from time to time, often in the evenings with her dog, Clementine.
Located on a quiet, tree-lined property in one of Charlottetown’s most loved residential neighbourhoods, Elmwood offers a peaceful stay just a 10 to 15 minute walk from the downtown core. Guests can easily explore restaurants, shops, galleries, and the waterfront, while Victoria Park is only a few blocks away with its boardwalk, trails, tennis courts, and green spaces.
Charlottetown sits at the heart of Prince Edward Island, making Elmwood an ideal base for exploring the Island. Many of PEI’s renowned beaches are within a short and easy drive, while the city itself is known for its walkability, charm, and relaxed pace.
