ESTABLISHED 1889
Our History
Originally built in 1889 for Arthur Peters — grandson of Sir Samuel Cunard and a future Premier of Prince Edward Island — the home that would become Elmwood Heritage Inn has stood on North River Road for more than 135 years.

Through the decades, the property has been a private family residence, a gathering place, and eventually a welcoming inn. Its tall windows, hardwood floors, decorative fireplaces, and winding staircase tell the story of a different era — one of craftsmanship, character, and care.
In 2026, a new owner began a thoughtful reimagining of the property, preserving the home’s original heritage character while adding the comforts and sensibility modern travellers expect. The goal was never to erase the past, but to honour it — layering in local art, carefully chosen furnishings, and a fresh perspective on what a heritage stay can feel like.
Today, Elmwood Heritage Inn welcomes guests from around the world who are drawn to homes with stories, streets with canopy trees, and islands with red sand beaches.
